We are gradually publishing "issues" on our web site to highlight Cairns examples as subjects that could be put forward for research by our State Cycle Unit, committee and working groups. What affects cyclists in one area is likely to affect other places also. It is the issue that is of concern as well as the location. Attention to problems at a local and state level has the potential to help cyclists all over Australia. Cairns Bicycle User Group
ISSUES
There are lots of issues related to cycling and the relationship with motor vehicles on the road and with pedestrians etc on the paths. Cyclists are continually sharing space on and off the road with other people and their choice of mode (motoring, cycling, walking, wheelchairs, roller blades etc). When it comes to planning, construction and funding, cyclists have in the past received less than adequate attention. Hopefully all that is changeing and all modes of transport will be considered in future transport provision and the upgrading of existing infrastructure.
This page will highlight the issues that need attention by our transport providers, federal, state and local.
Please send your comments to this page to create a forum for discussion about these very important issues.
