Congratulations to all of those appointed to the FNQ Disability Council. I believe the Tablelands have three representatives, including a PWEA member.

The FNQ Independent Living Equipment Display will be closed from 8/12/00 to 1/2/01.

The next Disability Network meeting for Rural and Remote areas will be held on 6/12/00 at 2pm at the Cairns City Library. Phone Jan Tiller on 40398370.

The next meeting of the Disability Network for Cairns is 8/2/01 at 12pm in Senator Jan McLucas' Rooms, Cnr Grafton and Shields Sts., Cairns.

Next year is International Year of the Volunteer. Half the population would fit that category, so let's get involved. IYV is holding a launch to recognize and celebrate the contributions made by volunteers to their communities. If you'd like to participate, please talk with FNQ Volunteers, Mary Calvert, Ph 40532540 or fax your ideas to 40417500. The launch is on 5th December, 12 to 2pm at City Place, Shield Street, Cairns.

Guide Dogs Australia has sent me a box of Sydney Access Guides. This is a fabulous little booklet and would be a glossy, easy use model on which to develop our own Disability Access Guide. Phone me to receive a copy.

The Queensland Disability Housing Coalition Inc says: A satisfactory Housing standard is one that provides a foundation for - rather than creates a barrier to - good physical and mental health, personal development and the realisation of life's aims. If you agree with that and could lend your support, phone 3397 5220 or e-mail qdhc@eis.net.au.
