TRAFFIC COMMITTEE
The Cairns City Traffic Advisory Committee will be re-established:-
The Cairns City Traffic Advisory Committee will be re-established with a select representation on the Committee consisting of representatives from Council, Queensland Police Service, Department of Main Roads, Queensland Transport.
Council sees this committee acting as a point of reference for all significant issues with a broader community effect. Issues raised at various existing committees that relate directly to the Cairns City area can be directed to this Traffic Advisory Committee for consideration and response.
The Committee would include from time to time representatives from other groups from which specific issues have been raised for consideration. These representatives would be available to fully explain the issues to be considered and answer initial questions.
The new committee will be meeting in August to consider its terms of reference. We will be further advised of the details of its charter.
Comment: This is a step in the right direction. The Cairns Bikeway Strategy Working Group is included in the areas of responsibility as well as Working Groups from Road Safety, Public Transport, School Transport, Speed Management, SafeST Committees, Major Projects. Hopefully this Transport Committee will be able to attract the funding necessary to implement the recommendations from the varied groups in our community representing motorists, cyclists, pedestrians and people with disabilities.
