Wednesday 30 August: COUNCILLORS' BIKE RIDE

8.30 AM: Lenore will be leading a bike ride for councillors and staff to show examples of cyclists' reports and works that are documented in the Bikeway Strategy. Let me know if you would like to to join in. Starting at the Council Chambers.

Wednesday 30 August: PARRAMATTA SCHOOL SAFEST MEETING

CBUG has documented an audit of Severin Street with maps showing road shoulders and foot paths. We have recommended a "shared path" for the full length of Severin Street, for school children and improvements to the road shoulders for experienced cyclists.

Friday 1 September: QUEENSLAND CYCLE STRATEGY - CAIRNS

1 PM - 3 PM: Attached is your invitation to this very important meeting which will be conducted by consultants who have travelled all over Queensland. Come along and have your say for Cairns. If you are working in the city, organise your lunch hour 1pm-2pm so that you can be there for at least some of the meeting. You may like to send me written submissions or respond direct to the consultants, address on the information form.

Sunday 3 September: ENVIRO-FIESTA 2000

CBUG will have an information stall at the annual envirofair organised by CAFNEC to be held at Centenary Park. Please come and help set up early before 9 am, sit on the stall sometime during the day for a while or visit for a chat. Do you have any photos to put up. See you there!

Thursday 7 September: CAIRNS BIKEWAY STRATEGY MEETING

10 AM: The Cairns Bikeway Strategy Implementation Working Group meeting will be held at the council chambers. Agenda is attached. Let me know if you want to attend or if you have an issue for the agenda. We need representation from bike clubs and bike shops please.

Thursday 14 September: MAIN ROAD - ROADS IMPLEMENTATION PROGRAM - Discussion Forum

8.45 AM: CBUG has been invited to attend an information session at the Holiday Inn Cairns, to assist in the annual review of the current five year Roads Implementation Program for the State's principal road network.

1 - 8 October: BIKE WEEK - QUEENSLAND

RIDE TO WORK DAY and other activities:-

Cairns again this year will be involved in Queensland's Bike Week. This event will be discussed at the strategy meeting on the 7th September. Last year the council provided a free breakfast. For outside the city, you are welcome to organise other breakfast locations. For assistance, please let me know by 6th September. How you can help:- the cycling clubs call their events a "bike week activity"; bike shops donate a few items for prizes; cyclists organise a social gathering, bike ride.

Please let me know and it will go on the posters and flyers, in the papers and on the media.

26 - 28 November: ROAD SAFETY - RESEARCH, POLICING & EDUCATION CONFERENCE

A road safety conference that will be held at the Sheraton Brisbane Hotel and Towers for two days. The pre conference symposia on safe cycling, Sunday 26th, will be attended by Lenore Evans in conjunction with a BUGs Day on Saturday 25th. Travel is sponsored by Queensland Transport which is very much appreciated.
